PROCESS ASSESSMENT / Gap Analysis and Report

By: Frank Watts BSME, CCDM
  • Object: To analyze the current processes and to give you Frank’s ideas for process improvement - gap analysis. Most of those ideas will be in the areas of improved work flow, form design, numbering, interchangeability, real cost reduction, real reduction in the number of changes, fast/accurate processes, use of teams in the process, eliminating the "throw it over the wall" syndrome, BOM structuring, suggestions for attaining a single BOM data base, attaining minimum control with minimum risk, and streamlining the process toward meeting ISO and world class requirements. He has developed some unique CM process measurement methods. Frank can help with supply chain considerations and to integrate your processes with legacy applications systems but he is not an applications software expert.
  • There are three benefits for doing this. It gets you Frank’s ideas for process improvement and problem solutions. It allows him to tailor / compare the seminar material presentation to your practices. It also allows him to shorten the seminar time.
  • A written report follows. It would include your strengths, process improvement needs and solution(s). He will not propose that he designs processes/systems to meet your needs. Rather, he will propose ways and means for your company to reinvent or continuously improve the processes to meet your requirements.
  • This would typically take a day and a half to three days at your site. A key person(s) would walk him through the processes and show sample documentation, logs, systems, forms, etc. Optionally interview a few key people (Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, Field Service).
